Look’s like she’ll be rigged this week. Yesterday I managed to paint the house, coamings and the long neglected bridgedeck bulkhead with the usual Kirby white semi-gloss. The Kirby family’s been making boat paint in New Bedford since 1846. A Mr. Kirby still answers the phone.
No need to do the boom as it’s still in good shape. Just fixed the blisters and such on the mast, putting the third coat on those spots today.

Decks and house painted. Hope to get the cabin top, trim and handrails done before she’s rigged.

The Bay beckons. I really need to get the cabin top painted.

Speedwell waits for her turn after Sjogin’s back in commision.
Russ,
I’m always curious as to why Sjogin gets pulled in August for her annual work. While your stove extends your season, aren’t you missing some of the best sailing of the season by pulling her now?
Actually, Canoez, September is some of the best sailing of the year, so by getting her back in the water now was good planning. Many of the motorboaters disappear after they turn that “Labor Day Corner”, and weekends afterward are much more enjoyable.
Canoez,
Dave said it best. After 10 months of quiet off-season sailing, (ice permitting), I’m ready to get off the Bay. By the time August rolls around, a month or so in a nice quite shed has it’s appeals. My end of Barnegat Bay gets narrower by Beaton’s and thus concentrates the boat traffic.
When I retire I look forward to sailing during the week when traffic’s a lot less. Maybe my seasonal pattern might change. Hmmmm.
